Yoel Ortiz the President and founder of JD-Miami, a leading construction and design-build firm. Originally from Cuba, Yoel studied structural engineering for four years, where he developed a passion for construction and honed his ability to solve complex engineering challenges. His early exposure to various construction sites inspired him to pursue a career in        building.

 

In 2005, Yoel made a daring escape from Cuba, first seeking refuge in Haiti, then moving to the Dominican Republic. After a month of living in the Dominican Republic, he embarked on a perilous journey to La Mona Island, just a few minutes of Puerto Rico, aboard a small boat. He was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and arrived in Miami, Florida, at the age of 21.

 

Upon settling in Miami, Yoel began working as a drafter for a local architects and interior designers. Determined to succeed, he attended Miami Dade College early each morning to learn English, while working late into the night and weekends. Through hard work and perseverance, Yoel quickly familiarized himself with the Florida Building Code, construction standards, regulations, and the permitting process.

 

After graduating from Miami Dade College, Yoel furthered his education at ITT Technical Institute, where he earned a degree in Drafting and Design in just two years. This pivotal step solidified his vision of entering the design-build field and led him to establish JD Engineering & Construction, Corp., doing business as JD-Miami, in January 2010.


Initially, JD-Miami offered services in construction management, project administration, general supervision and inspections. With five years of experience in the field, Yoel became a State Certified General Contractor and State Certified Pool Contractor. Combining his engineering, drafting and design expertise , he expanded the company's focus to the construction of high-end, custom multimillion-dollar homes.


Today, JD-MIAMI designs and builds an average of three to four custom home per year, maintaining a commitment to quality and steady, sustainable growth.
